A standout feature of the 2025 event is the introduction of a lifeline system, allowing clubs eliminated early to battle their way back through the Froggies Section, keeping hopes alive for a shot at the Grand Final.

Event co-founder and Contest Director, Wayne “Rabbit” Bartholomew, spoke about the new format.
“This format gives every club a fair shot. Surfing is about resilience, and the lifeline system captures that spirit, ensuring no team is knocked out too early. It’s going to bring a new level of excitement to the competition.” Said Bartholomew.

A core principle of the World Club Challenge remains its commitment to equal prize money.

Co-founder Theodore Vairaktaris emphasised the importance of this equality.

“We are so excited about this new format for 2025 and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive in regard to continuing to develop the World Club Challenge format we have been working on for several years, and in essence creating a world class, international boardriders competition, providing opportunities for established and emerging surfers to represent their club and country on the world stage, right here on the Gold Coast.”  Vairaktaris said.

With 48 clubs from countries including Hawaii, the USA, the UK, Bali, Japan, Tahiti, and New Zealand, this year’s event will feature world-class talent. No matter where the clubs finish, they will walk away with part of the prize pool.

The 2025 World Club Challenge promises to be an incredible display of skill and teamwork, with the top prize of $10,000 waiting at Snapper Rocks. Make sure you’re there to witness all the action from 17-19 January!
