Club Spotlight: Cabarita Boardriders

Cabarita Boardriders is the definition of a grassroots surfing club.

The club first began in 1985 as a way to keep the small seaside community’s kids active and continues to flourish in an area which while sustaining significant growth, has managed to retain its coastal charm.

The club continues to provide training, guidance, and competition tips for the areas most talented, ensuring they are well equipped to handle the elite junior and professional qualifying series once they have developed their skills at club and inter-club level.

Ultra-competitive female surfer Zahli Kelly is typical of the type of competitors the CABA BRC are producing. Ranked #7 on the women’s QS tour 21/22, Kelly is an athlete who prefers to let her surfing do the talking and when she is on, the surfing world takes notice.

The club also lays claims to outstanding underground surfers like Chippa Wilson and freestyle surfer extraordinaire Robbie Johnson.

While they focus on creating great surfers, their mantra is to produce better people, and the environment is top of the agenda with the club working to protect and preserve the environment whilst constantly looking at ways to reduce their carbon footprint.

“Respect for the ocean, respect for the community and respect for each other”
