SPOTLIGHT ON TORQUAY BOARDRIDERS

“Go Hard, or Go Home” It’s a fair indication that Torquay BRC or the Bells Angels as they are affectionately known are pretty serious about their surfing.

The Torquay Boardriders Club was formed in 1978 to ensure that Torquay was represented as the premiere surfing centre of the state in all surfing events. Since then, it has evolved into a family-based club with participation by first- and second-generation surfers promoted, coaching and training programs conducted to ensure juniors are supported in their surfing development, and well managed events are a priority.

Successful competition results in individual and team events fly the flag for the club, but a lot of work is spent on nurturing the club junior talent—getting involved with local government beach use issues and such programs as Sunsmart. Since 1993 we have been a member of the Bells Beach Management Committee.

Torquay currently boasts more than 300 members and the clubs surfers excel individually and in teams events with some of their more recent accolades including.

  • 8 consecutive Victorian teams title champions
  • 2 Consectutive Victorian junior teams championship titles.
  • Nudie Australian Boardrider Battle, Victorian champions
  • Two-time Australian junior champions.

Look out for Torquay when the Usher Cup gets underway at Snapper Rocks from the 19th to the 22nd of January 2023.
