The Kauai Boardriders Club are making waves across the Hawaiian surf community following the announcement that the newly formed BRC have accepted an invitation to compete in the 2024 Usher Cup World Club Challenge, hosted at the legendary Snapper Rocks break on the Gold Coast.

The 2024 Usher Cup, World Club Challenge will be contested from the 18th to the 21st of January with the Kauai boardriders joining Boardriders Maui as the second representative from the Hawaiian Islands.

Founded by Theodore Vairaktaris & surfing royalty Wayne “Rabbit” Bartholomew, the Usher Cup, World Club Challenge will see the very best Boardriders clubs from around the world test their skills against Australia’s most successful clubs with surfers vying for individual, team, and international honours with Rabbit thrilled with the growth of Boardrider surfing across the US.

“Australia has always had an affinity for Boardriders clubs, and we do it exceptionally well with our clubs continually producing State, National and World Champions in all age groups over a long period of time. That momentum has now reached the US and as I mentioned a few years ago, when it takes hold, the surfing landscape will change forever, and the inclusion of Kauai is proof of that.”  Said Bartholomew.

“We have been in discussions with the team in Kauai for some time and to see their progression as a club has been really exciting. The team from Maui have been exceptional ambassadors for Hawaii as well as the Usher Cup, World Club Challenge and I am really looking forward to welcoming the Kauai Boardriders, our second team from the Hawaiian Islands to Australia in January.”

The journey for Kauai Boardriders Club to the Usher Cup has been marked by dedication and determination with the club who operating under the umbrella of the US Boardriders competing locally, with plans to compete in regional and national competitions on the USA mainland.

The Kauai Boardriders held what has been described as a cut-throat try out to select their Usher Cup World Club Challenge team with trialists ripping during the elimination event.  Of those selected to represent the club in Australia, former WCT veteran Malia Manuel will lead the charge down under, joined by CT experienced surfer Sebastian Zietz, local legend Kyle Galtes, and up and coming junior Rylan Beavers.

“We look forward to bringing some of Kauai’s best surfers to compete at the Usher Cup. This opportunity is huge for the future of Hawaii Board Riders which is still in the initial stages of creation. Sebastian and I have had the honour of attending local board riders events at Snapper rocks and it’s a dream to bring the same stoke to our community. We know that this is going to help generate interest in the clubs that are starting to pop up throughout the island chain” said club spokesperson Krisy Zietz.

The Kauai Boardriders Club have created a fully inclusive club with surfers of all ages and abilities urged to join as members as they work to create a vibrant, surf loving community which caters for boardriders looking to join a club, through to those looking to test and improve their skills on the national and international stage when they arrive on the Gold Coast in January.
